Writing
Writing the paper
Turn four weeks of theory, simulation and measurement into one paper, and leave notes for the next team.
Goals
- Write one paper that tells a single story, from the parametric-array idea through the KZK prediction to the measured audio.
- Make every figure reproducible from files in the project folder.
- Update this site with your notes so the next team starts where you finished.
Why this matters
The paper is what the department reads and what the next team starts from. Every other step on the map names the section of the paper its work goes into, so most of the paper is already written in your notes.
The physics
No new physics. The work is in choosing what to leave out.
Hints
Hint 1Start from the figures
List the five or six figures that carry the story, in order: the beam directivity, the simulated audio waveform and spectrum, the measured level against distance, and the comparison. Write the captions first, then the text that connects them.
Hint 2One voice, one set of symbols
Readers notice when means the source radius in one section and the Gaussian half-width in another. Make a symbol table before you start writing.
Hint 3Leave the site better than you found it
Add your notes under “What past teams did” on every step of this map, including what you would do differently. That is the most useful thing a future team can get from you.
